Top Flite P-40E Powered by 1.20
Surpass (4 cycle) 5'6" wingspan ~18 pounds First RC I've
built. Now have to buy a trainer to learn how to fly these things!
It was a great kit to build, and very well engineered. Only
thing I did different was to hand paint the shark's mouth from
a photo of the AF Museum (Dayton) P-40E. The kit decal was not
very good (low color contrast, and did not form well around
the cowl).
I made the P-40 model in memory
of a family friend who flew P-40s on photo reconnaissance out
of India into Burma and China during WWII. In the cockpit of
my model I have an actual APO letter from him in India to me
dated August 27, 1944. I was just 7 years old on that day!
