Fred Clarke
and the RCAF 400 and 414 Squadrons
by Chris Clarke
In the period 1941 through 1943
he was with RCAF 400 and 414 squadrons stationed in the UK .
The P-40 aircraft that my father flew mostly was designated
RU-F. The photos of the "flight" of 3 aircraft were
taken as promo pictures for Aeroplane magazine.
Dad was the last of the original
pilots that formed up RCAF 414 squadron and together with a
US volunteer flying with the RCAF, Hollis H. Hills, he was part
of the first ever "kill" made by a Mustang . It occurred
August 19, 1942 during the Dieppe operation.
