Title: Curtiss electric wide chord propellers for P-40...Help please?
Post by: Derek B on October 03, 2010, 08:33:26 PM
I am just starting my master pattern making for a 1/32 Curtiss Electric wide chord propeller for the Hasegawa P-40 series of aircraft. I am looking for reference material for the blades (either good photographs or technical information), so if any of you P-40 experts out there have anything helpful that I may use, I would appreciate it very much.

If anyone also has the necessary skills to overlay a good true view of both the standard narrow and wide chord propellers (either line drawing or phtographs), that would also help me immensely as I can then appreciate where to make the alterations (as well as immediately see the blade root differences).

TIA

Regards

Derek

Give me a few days.  I think I have some photos which might help.

Derek,
Sorry for the delay.  Real life keeps getting in the way.
I have two photos, one each of P-40K and P-40N and they are from the same angle.
I need to scan them and then superimpose the images to see the difference in detail.
Give me a few more days....

Thanks Vince, that would be great :)

Based on dimensions taken from a full size propeller, I have drawn a picture of it which looks very symmetrical, but I take it that this is actually a true plan based on dimensions alone (no allowence for blade twist). Your photographs will help me determine how close my initial blade shape is to the real thing. I shall be starting to shape a plastic blank into a blade very soon.

Thanks

Derek

Derek,
Sorry I haven't posted the comparison photos.  Life's been busy lately.
I saw you have measurements someone provided on the large scale forum.
Do you still need anything or are you "all set"?
Vince

No problems Vince - I'm about done now anyway, so I shall not need them. Thank you for the very kind offer in the first place.

Best regards

Derek
