Title: 2016 California Capital Airshow
Post by: Mark Joyce on October 02, 2016, 10:05:49 PM
This weekend is the California Capital Airshow at Mather Air Field, Sacramento CA, and I was able to attend yesterday under perfect weather conditions.  It was a great show overall, except the Blue Angels had to cancel at the last minute because its commander came down with a food-borne illness.  Fortunately on my part, since this was the last event of the day, I had already left to avoid the mass exodus afterwards (which apparently was a mess), so I didn't miss anything but a traffic-induced headache.

In honor of the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, there was a demonstration called "The War in the Pacific."   Many WWII warbirds flew in the demonstration, including a P-40 honoring the exploits of both George Welch and Ken Taylor (especially the latter); the P-40 'shot down' a Val dive-bomber during the Pearl Harbor 'attack'.  Following these, a B-25 took to the air representing the Doolittle Raid, then a P-38 for the Yamamoto interception, followed by a Corsair, Avenger, and Dauntless, and ending with the B-29 "Fifi" and an escort of two P-51s in representation of dropping the atomic bombs.
