Title: Identity of this other 85th FS/79th FG P-40F
Post by: Mark Joyce on April 11, 2020, 12:18:03 AM
"Desert Queen."  I have this one photo, which came from the p40hawksnest website.  Not sure who the pilot and other individual are:

And this one, from the Squadron/Signal book "P-40 Warhawk in Action."  Depending on the source, the serial number indicated could have been either a short-tail or long-tail "F" but based on the exhausts "Desert Queen" was likely a long-tail.  Regarding the individuals credited for the photo, I don't know who Norm Taylor is and Robert Dorr has passed away:

Any other information or photos are greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Mark

Interesting that this P-40F still has its "ring and bead" sight.
I noticed that some "F" did not have this old backup hardware at all.
In fact some P-40M and N only had the front "bead" and no "ring".
So it is possible that this is a short-tail but then again, there were not many of those made.
