Hello  I’ve done a short detail and measurement article on the early “Longnose” P40/Tomahawk

A low res version in PDF is posted on Hyperscale http://downloads.hyperscale.com/longnosehawks_download.html

I also posted a hi res version at http://www.freewebs.com/p40-tomahawk/

Some of the things it goes over are
•   The wing gun layout shown on most ever book, drawing, and model has the total wrong.
•   That there is a completely new seat type never listed before and all the AVG aircraft used it.
•   That there is some major detail on the right side engine cowl that seems to be almost completely unknown.

Take a look a see what you think

This is some fabulous information!  Thanks so much for taking the time to put it together.  If you would like it hosted here, just let me know.

Thanks Hume!  Obviously a lot of time and effort went into the article.  It's interesting that several things we have taken as gospel aren't true at all, especially about the old Monogram kit.

I regards to two questions I’ve seen posted
I use the name “Long Nose”  and  “Short Nose”  really in reference to the engine  used in the Curtiss H-81  vs  the Curtiss H-87

The gear case in the V1710C is relatively unique as WW2 liquid cool “V” go and the Curtiss H-81 was the only major production aircraft to use it, and redesign of the Curtiss H-81 in to the Curtiss H-87 was driven in part to accommodate the new V1710E and it shorter “conventional”  liquid cool “V” gear case.

In reference to the  wind screen, the plexglass is in three parts but there is no frame between the  pieces  but just butt jointed  look at the head on shot down in the

“Fuselage firewall to tail section”
But a far  better head on shot  of the wind screed can be found in Eagle Files #4 Tigers over China, The Aircraft of the A.V.G.  clearly showing the three butt jointed  pieces .
